Connecting Past and Present: A Journey Through Spinning and Weaving
In 2024, I began delving into my family history, a journey that would unexpectedly intertwine with my passion for spinning and weaving. What started as two separate pursuits soon revealed their shared significance. Through further exploration, I discovered that my great-grandmother was a silk weaver living at Rose Yard, St Augustine's, Norwich. To my amazement, I also found that my second great-grandmother was a weaver based in St Paul's, Norwich.
Inspired by this familial connection, I aim to bridge the past with the present through my work. This workshop is designed to bring history to life, offering a glimpse into the intricate process of transforming sheep's wool into an often-underestimated fibre. Together, we will honour the craftsmanship of those who came before us while celebrating the enduring art of spinning and weaving. Rosa Miles 1857 - 1919
